Welcome to my home office. I’m so excited to share this room with you all.
If you don’t already know by now I work from home as a Realtor for Michael Saunders and Company. When we were building this house it was important that I had a space where I felt productive. I wear a few hats — not only juggling real estate but also taking care of my husband’s accounting for his construction business. If you can imagine I have lots and lots of paperwork to hide!
I worked directly with our cabinet builder to layout the bookshelves and cabinetry based on my needs. The cabinets provide storage for my printer, extra paper, and supplies. The drawers are large pullouts and hold everything from work files to wrapping paper. All the underneath storage allows me to keep the open shelves ‘visually pleasing’.
Like decorating any bookshelves these took some time. Each shelf was carefully thought out with the perfect mix of new and old.
Living on the water we incorporated many coastal elements throughout our home. The large shell sitting on the white books is from my husbands 40th Birthday trip that we took to Exuma in the Bahamas. I love displaying it and remembering the fun time we had.
The shelves are the perfect spot to display the many books I have collected over the years. Here I tried to layer some artwork and family photos without making it feel to cluttered. I love mixing new and old like these brass bookends that I found in a second hand store. Pro tip: If your looking to layer with books, head to your favorite thrift store and look for hardcover books. Remove the cover and look for books with the same color binding, I like to display them with the pages facing forward.
Often times I will have someone join me in the office so having the perfect chair to chat in is important. This chair was a vintage find that I had re-upholstered in a Kravet fabric. The mirror behind my chair may look familiar to you, it’s the same one I use for my try-on sessions. I searched for what seemed like way to long for the perfect full length mirror that didn’t break the bank.
For my desk I wanted to position it to face outwards so it was important to use a desk that was finished on all sides. My desk faces out so I have both a perfect view out to our patio and to the front door as well. I wanted to go with a larger desk space and I loved this bamboo style leg. This piece was a special order and can be custom ordered through my designer (contact info below). I’ve provided some other similar options below.
If your looking for something a bit smaller, I love this small parsons table.
I left finding the perfect piece of artwork to my interior designer, Melissa DeMore. I absolutely love all the colors that come from this print.
The bookcase and cabinets are painted in BM Cheating Hear
For the hardware we used Restoration Hardware cabinet hardware
Hand braided raffia light. I love the organic element that it brings to the room and especially love the light it puts off at night.
